The Savage name has a long history in some circles in Curry County. Board Chair, Ron Bradley and his friends used to call themselves the "Curry County Savages" and Chip Bradley and his hiking buddies started calling themselves the "Siskiyou Savages" after several backpacking trips into the Siskiyou Wilderness. Longtime friend and musician Alan Plaep publishes his bands music under the name of "Siskiyou Savage Music". Combining the common usage and the fact that savage is one of the few adjectives that can describe all four mascots of the high schools in the Curry and Del Norte region.

Since its inception in 2004, the team has seen many talented plyers come through from Curry and Del Norte counties as well as athletes from Humboldt County. Many ex-high school JC and HSU athletes have enjoyed football at the semi pro level through this team.

2007 would be the best outing in franchise history marked by a season opening overtime loss to the Crusaders, an overtime win over the Raiders and a four-overtime win against Northwest Football League foe Willamette Valley, the Savages played three overtime games but had a three game losing streak of one score games by a total of 9-points.  The season ended with a victory over the Buzzards, but was not enough to earn a playoff spot finishing 5-5 on the season.  Siskiyou would take part in the annual "Pig Bowl" facing the Oregon LawDawgs law enforcement team coming out on top 40-20.  The Pig Bowl was a charity game for Youth Football programs.

In 2008 the Savage name had given way to the South Coast Storm, and while the name changed, the attitude remained the same. With many returning athletes and prospects on the recruit list, coaches and players were excited and optimistic about their chances to push for the Oregon Football League title.

The Storm continued to struggle and after an 0-7 campaign, the 2008 season was the last.
