ROGUE WARRIORS

During the infancy of the Oregon Football League, two teams were spawned in the Rogue Valley for 1998 in the Rogue Warriors and the Rogue Valley Blaze, joining the Douglas Outlaws and the Klamath County Crusaders as the new league began a southern Oregon offering, where the northern teams like Salem, Eugene and Portland historically sent representatives to play in the Northwest Football League.  The Warriors would establish themselves as a dominant force going undefeated that first season and defeating the Valley rivals 39-14.

The Warriors would repeat the following season in claiming the 1999 crown, once again, at the expense of the Blaze 28-8.  That game would be the last for the Blaze as the Warriors again made a run at the three-peat, only to be thwarted by the Crusaders in a one-point championship loss.  2001 would be an anomally as the Central Oregon Stampede became the top dogs while the Warriors suffered a 2-3 season and needed to revamp.

From that point forward, the Warriors reclaimed their crown by defeating the Stampede by one-point for the 2002 title, then dominated Central Oregon for the 2003 championship.  The Stampede would repay the defeat a year later in the 2004 playoffs with a resounding 51-8 thumping.

2002 was the final season for the "shiftiest back in the league" as Tommy Selden, a Warrior and Oregon League original hung up his cleats after earning OFL MVP twice and winning three league championships and 1st Team honors all four seasons he played.  Selden was inducted into the Greater Northwest Football Hall of Fame in 2017.

For five of the OFL's first eight seasons the Warriors would bring owner and coach Harry Flowers the League Title after appearing in seven championship games through 2006.

A 7-2 season came with the 2007 season as the High Desert Lightning, formerly the Stampede regained the crown, High Desert claiming both victories over the Warriors including the playoff game to end the season for Rogue.  From there, the Oregon Monarchs rose to prominence claiming the OFL crown from 2008 through 2011, twice defeating the Warriors in decisive fashion in 2008 and 2009 in the title game.

The final two seasons were rough as the Warriors struggled to a 5-14, once again a local area rival having come on the scene in the Southern Oregon Renegades featuring former Warriors at it's core including multi-time OFL All-Leaguer and 2005 OFL Offensive MVP Rockne DeMello as the owner.

After fourteen seasons and posting an 88-38 overall record, with 5 League Championships on the mantle, Harry Flowers shut down the Rogue Warriors for good, having been named OFL Coach of the Year twice and providing a place for numerous OFL All-League selections to call home on the football field at a time in the late 90's when there were few teams in southern Oregon.

The Rogue Warriors name would briefly be rekindled in 2019-2020 under a different group and mostly referred to as the Medford Warriors as Covid-19 lockdowns killed Oregon semi-pro football until 2022 and changed the landscape of the sport completely, and not in a good way.  Little is found on that team other than a scheduled game in February of 2020 against the Trojans and a loss in August to the Timberwolves as some teams tried to covertly organize and rekindle games in areas that loosened restrictions.
