2020 in Oregon was a bad time to start a semi-pro football team.
Paul Frazier Jr. planned to replace the
Portland Nightmare with the Portland Panthers in the Pacific
Northwest Football League after the Nightmare joined forces with the
Portland Raiders. But, when
Covid-19 hysteria gripped, the State of Oregon shut down sports
altogether and it was the death nail for many established semi-pro
football teams and a killer to those trying to get off the ground
like the Panthers. The Panthers entire season was cancelled
just weeks before kickoff. The State would continue to bar
sports gatherings into 2021 keeping the Pacific Northwest League on
the sidelines until 2022. With the two year layoff, the
destruction was wide-spread. Only five teams remained in
Oregon and by 2025 only one Oregon team took the field in the
semi-pro ranks in the form of the I-5 Cobras. DO YOU HAVE INFORMATION TO CONTRIBUTE? CONTACT US! (email)
