PORTLAND BOLTZ
(2013)

Hillsboro, Oregon

Created in late 2012 using the iconography and throwback to the original Oregon Thunderbolts, these Boltz were already a succesful group out of Portland dating back to 2008 and an attractive target for poaching to the next "pro league" making noise about big plans on the west coast.

Head coach, Aaron Fentress was tabbed by Matt Brown and Theo Hall to lead the struggling Professional Developmental League's latest Northwest edition of a team. Bringing most of the Portland Monarchs stars, four-time regional champions, it was expected that the Boltz could salvage and stabilize the floundering PDFL along with remaining solid member Tacoma.  However the other teams brought in to play "professionally" were less than ready for prime time.  Boise and New Mexico collapsed early.  Utah, having a solid team, found the travel to be too expensive and difficult for their players so make-shift opponents from the Western Washington Football Alliance were plugged into the many holes in the schedule early on in April and May.  The back-end schedule would become a problem as the rest of the semi-pro leagues were in full swing and few options remained on open dates.

The PDFL playoffs were scrapped following the Boltz win over the Cobras on June 15th and Portland was declared the champions of the now 2-team league and the rest of the season was scrapped.  The PDFL was over and it was the players who lost, having given up stability and a full year of playing for the promises of yet another "professional" developmental league that fell far short of grandiose plans.

The team would seek to blend itself with the Portland Raiders as the Monarchs team was in the process of shutting down operations following the 2014 season leaving the remaining former-Monarchs not playing with the Boltz or Raiders to form the Portland Pit Bulls.
