The Diggers, named after the area beet and potato farmers, emerged
as an indirect AA competitor to the AAA Magic Valley Bulldawgs franchise
in 2011 which had moved to Jerome.
The debut was effective as the Diggers were in every game of a 5-4
season, losing by 8, 1, and 11 during the regular season. A
rematch with the Idaho Falls Mustangs in the playoffs was the "worst"
loss of the season by 14.
2012 began a methodical slide down the standings bottoming out in 2014
with a 1-6 record and finale forfeit.
In a dramatic realignment of the RMFL and a fortuitous AA division of 5
teams, the Diggers found themselves vying for a Championship with Elko
and the rubber-match in the balance. With a 13-6 victory in the
title game, the Diggers completed the "worst to first" transition in
2015.
The party did not last long as realignment in 2016 once again sent the
Diggers to the middle of the pack with a 5-4 season.
The Diggers opted to leave the RMFL for the 2017 season and found a home
in the Idaho Contact League with some familiar faces. Familiarity,
recruiting and fresh start, the Diggers raced out to a 5-0 start to the
season but ended up on the short end three out of the final four games
including a playoff ouster at the hands of the Boise Oilers.
The Diggers would again be denied a deep run into the playoffs in 2018,
losing in the semi finals to eventual 4-Time Champion Tribe.
The Diggers and Bulldawgs were the marquee members of the short-lived
Idaho Football Alliance which fell apart early in 2019 with the Ogden
Maniax and Idaho Phoenix unable to put a season together. The
Bulldawgs and Diggers would face each other three times as Mini Cassia
finished undefeated at 7-0.
Rejoining the ICFL in 2020, the Diggers got into the fire right away
with the former RMFL Champion Idaho Mustangs joining the league and
thumping MC 50-0. Regrouping for a 5-0 run into the playoffs
including back-to-back wins over the Wolfpack of East Idaho, Mini Cassia
found themselves in the East Division title game against those same
Mustangs from Week 1 losing by the same 50-0 score. Brogen Thoren
(DE/TE) and Aaron Johnson (DT/OT) were voted dual-1st Team All-East
Division for both offense and defense to lead the Diggers.
The 2021 season was once again ended by the Mustangs by a 50-0 score,
ending the Diggers franchise run in Idaho after 11 seasons.
