The Valley Mustangs were formed after the split of the Pierce County Knights by owners Brandon Powell and Rich Winkle.  Winkle would form the Lakewood Wolves and Powell would take the Knights uniform theme of green and black to the newly formed Mustangs.

In 2007 the Mustangs got on track and reeled off 8-straight victories averaging over 44-points per game and giving up just 19 before running into the buzz saw Shockers in the Pacific Northwest Conference Championship game.  Mitch Johnson would lead the team in post-season honors garner all-league and all-region spots at three positions (defensive line, punter and kicker).

In 2008, Powell opted to accept an offer to form the North American League's Northwest division and take his team out of the PNFC.  With the exit of the Mustangs, and the folding of the Wolves and Dragons, the remaining PNFC teams merged with the Evergreen League.  The Mustangs found the summer venue a tough sell, finishing the 2008 season with only 17 players and a 1-7 record.

In November of 2008 the Mustang ownership opted to leave the NAFL for the Cascade Football League.

VALLEY MUSTANGS FRANCHISE IS REVOKED - Cascade Football League
Feb. 3, 2009:
The Valley Mustang franchise under the ownership of Monica Moore has been suspended from the CFL for various reasons.  A new team, to be owned and operated by Tim Gilmore, the Mustangs former head coach will take the place of the Mustangs.  The name will be announced soon. Possible home fields are Auburn High and Bonney Lake High.

Two teams would form in the area that would split off many of the former Mustang players as 2009 debuted both the South King County Colts and the Tacoma Cobras.
