The Surrey Rams began play in 1956 under Wally Strang.  Playing home-and-home games with Penticton and Kamloops, Surrey struggled to one win. In an exhibition game with what ended up being recent cuts from the BC Lions, a newspaper reported that the score was 8-0 at halftime and no score was kept in the second half, which was good because the Rams were "slaughtered".

An appeal to join the Victoria League was denied in the spring of '57 forcing the Rams to form a mainland league with Kamloops and Penticton called the "BC Intermediate League".  The Rams rolled through the league losing only to the powerhouse Seattle Ramblers and Bellingham's Western Washington collegiates enroute to facing the Oak Bay Drakes.  This, after Kamloops had to forfeit the final game due to flu.

Battling for the right to represent Western Canada against the 3-time champion Drakes, but a fumble return for a TD and two 40-yard air strikes put the halftime score at 21-0.  The Rams could not dig out from that hole falling 21-6 still looking for a victory outside of regular league play.

The Rams struggled through a winless 1960 season which boiled over with 3 players ejected in the Oct 9 Grizzlies game for fighting and "talking" offenses.

The Rams would call it quites along with the Vancouver Grizzlies and not return for 1961.  The Surrey Ram name would live on in Junior Division.  Rams players who kept going would migrate to the New Westminster Royals.
