The desire for a Portland franchise in the Continental Football League dated back to 1967 when the Long Beach Admirals attempted to relocate against the wishes of the league and was basically dropped after three games, two being non-league preseason games.  Future Northwest semi-pro influencer Dick Suess was among an ownership group attempting to get the Admirals moved even while serving as a head-office executive of the Orange County Ramblers in Califorania.

Following the 1968 season, Suess' Ramblers would fold up and the Continental League awarded the team to Honolulu and the Hawai'i Warriors for the 1969 season.  Stories vary, but just 18-days prior to the season starting, the "Warriors" would relocate to Portland and become the Portland Loggers.  A long twisting route for the majority of former Ramblers to end up in Portland, Oregon instead of Hawai'i.  Leonard Younce, star with the Portland Boilermakers in 1942 assisted with coaching linebackers under Chuck Fenenbock.

The team would struggle to a 3-9 campaign, it's only season in Continental League play.  Rhome Nixon, a 1966 draft pick of the San Diego Chargers, would be the shining star having his best season after playing with the Ramblers the previous two.  Catching 58 passes for 940 yards and 9 scores, Nixon was a Continental League All-Pro in 1969 and the top player in the Northwest Region for 1969.  Nixon would gain some attention from the British Columbia Lions in 1970, eventually spending the 1972-1975 seasons as an Ottawa Rough Rider, having his best season in 1974.

The team would officially throw in the towel in April of 1970 and it would be nearly a decade before the Vancouver-Portland Thunderbirds would resurrect the "Thunderbird" moniker last on the field from 1962-1966 and Portland would have semi-pro football back on the scene.
