The Boise Roughriders acquired a new sponsor in Duke Speed Academy following the 2006 season and the Boise Speed were born.  The changeover was a 2007 season filled with heartbreak as Boise lost the first two games by a combined eight points.  The season spiraled out from there finishing 0-9 in the Rocky Mountain Football League as the offense never scored more than 21 points in any game and failed to break double digits scoring in five games while the defense gave up 153 points in the last three games.  Despite the rough outing, ten players were voted to RMFL All-League honors.

Season two was a much better showing as the Speed rebounded by starting the 2008 season 5-0 including three shut outs.  Back-to-back stumbles against the Magic Valley Bulldawgs and the Great Falls Gladitors shuffled the playoff deck and the Idaho Matadors, a team the speed defeated in consecutive weeks ni April, scored a three-point playoff win to oust Boise from the RMFL playoffs to finish 7-3.  Eighteen members earned All-RMFL honors led by Defensive Player of the Year Zac Jockumsen, his fourth DPOY award of his career.  Jockumsen was voted into the GNFA Hall of Fame in 2023.

The following season, the Speed and Matadors got together and announced a merger creating the Boise Bombers.
