The Colts were created in 1901 and took their name from a favorite cigar
from the factory of the team manager Harry Blumberg.

Guard Ed Miller was a frequent source of objection for some opponents
being the only black player on the team.
Tom Pope scored on runs of 90 and 60 yards against Fort Missoula to lead
the team to its first victory. Later in 1904, as a fireman he
would be the first in Missoula to die in the line of duty when he was
thrown by his team of horses enroute to a fire.
