* Historical Note:  1911 marked a major change in the "club" football structure as no longer could college athletes double-dip playing both college and club football.  The AAU moved to reform the "amateur" standing of athletes by disallowing them to play with clubs who "employed" athletes and were not AAU members.  Common practice was for athletic clubs to outbid one another for the services of an outstanding athlete through various means.  The AAU deemed this "professionalism" and led to the barring of college athletes like Oregon's Inky Boe who was famously ruled ineligible for college football after playing with an athletic club.  This change led to a reduction in the competitiveness of some "big" clubs who ended their football programs when it became no longer lucrative to travel to take on other "big" clubs for a 60% take of the gate when no star athletes were there to draw the big crowds.
