1980 was a record setting performance for Steve Levenseller and the Pierce County Bengals as they rolled out to a 9-0 record, extending a winning streak to 22 in a row.  Levenseller penned his name to 10 Northwest records in 1980 as one of the top defenders and return specialists in the country.

The former four-year starter for the University of Puget Sound owned Northwest records for Combined Returns in a Season (62: 41 punt returns, 15 kick-off returns, 6 interception returns), Combined Return touchdowns in a Season (7), Punt Returns in a Season (41), Punt Returns in a Game (8), Punt Return Yards in a Season (607), Punt Return Yards in a Game (145), Punt Return touchdowns in a Season (4), Kickoff Return Yards in a Game (192), Kickoff Return Average in a Game (64.0) as well as a Nation Leading 1,240 combined return yards in a season.  All after setting a Northwest interception record of 10 the previous year following his release in July '79 from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he briefly joined brother Mike, a wideout.
