By a score of 4-0 the Black Cats defeated the
Independents in a lively football game Nov. 28 and by reason of their
success, the former eleven now claims the championship of the city teams
of its class. Sillman of the Black Cats was the hero of the day by
a well directed place kick held by Byrd.
The teams were evenly matched. Durham and
Palmer put up a spectacular game for the hosting team. H. Ham and
Sillman were the victors' particular stars. The forward pass, this
season's innovation, was worked successfully by both teams. This
victory, the Black Cats claim, gives them clear title to the city
championship, they having previously defeated Houston and Brown
Pharmacy. Out of a total of 10 games played this season, only one
was lost and that to the Holmes eleven, and the Cats later wiped out
this defeat by a victory over Holmes.
Houston Academy had defeated Holmes 23-0 early in
the season while outscoring opponents 68-5 through October and November.
Cannon Hill Pharmacy is the team that had crossed their goal. |
