Ray "Battle" Bigelow

Quarterback

St. Johns Bachelors

The most dangerous triple-threat player in the region for the past ten years, "Battle" Bigelow dominated the Portland Football League for the Bachelors during an 8-0 championship 1924 season.

Taking down the Piedmont Stars twice on the season, while Piedmont defeated Washington champion Tacoma Athletic Club, St. Johns shut out 6 opponents allowing a total of 13 points scored against them with Bigelow locking down the defensive backfield.  While also a stellar and heady punter and kicker, Bigelow salvaged the undefeated season with a field goal to end the game against Vernon Park 3-0.

At season end, the Portland League voted Bigelow the All-Star quarterback along with five of his teammates as the top 11 players in Portland.
