Prior to the Rockets formation for the 1944 season, Head Coach Matty Mathews was leading the 1943 Portland Coast Guard team and had been coach of the West Seattle Yellowjackets from 1931-1932.Mathews would pass away in 1947 at the age of 60 at his home from a heart attack.  The long-time coach had been a prominent sports man going back to 1911 across Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

RB Jimmy Caine averaged 7.5 ypc against the Bombers, QB Dave Gammon threw for 2 TD's in the same game

Former Rocket guard Herman DeVault would later own the Wishing Well Lounge and sponsor a semi-pro team dubbed the Portland DeVaults in 1955.
