1961 Northwest Player of the Year

Don "Ace" Allen

End

Seattle Ramblers

“Ace” Allen set the record for receiving touchdowns with 12 as a favorite target of Hall of Fame quarterback and coach Mel McCain, and Gary Hezel.  Against the Spokane Rams, Allen caught three scoring strikes from both Rambler quarterbacks.  All told, during the season “Ace” caught touchdown passes from four different quarterbacks enroute to an MVP season in his final year of football.  The former 3-sport star at Everett Junior College (football, basketball, baseball) had played five years of semi-pro baseball with three in Anchorage, Alaska.

Along with his receiving skills, Allen had also been a valuable asset on defense and in the kicking game throughout his career.  A Rambler since 1953, “Ace” retired after the 1961 season, the top scoring receiver in the Northwest.
