1928 Northwest Player of the Year

Johnny Gaffney

Half Back

Ballard Community Club

Jumpin' Johnny slashed through defenses in 1928 on his way to Player of the Year honors in the Community League.  The league scoring champion scored on the ground, in the air and returning punts to lead Ballard to an undefeated season as Champs of the 1928 Community League.

On defense, he and his teammates led a stifling group that was rarely scored upon, he rushed for 5 TD's in the first three games of the season.  A mighty feat for the low-scoring scrum style of play that year.

Gaffney also starred on the Ballard baseball and basketball teams, as well as the Builders Brick soccer club while keeping his minor league baseball career going through the mid-1920's and 1930's.
